Repair your ROG Ally Touchscreen
The ROG Ally, Asus's challenger to the handheld gaming throne, boasts impressive specs and a sleek design. If you have damaged the screen of your Ally, here we’ll guide you through the screen replacement process and get you back to dominating virtual battlefields. Asus Accessories is proud to offer new, directly from Asus, components for the ROG Ally in order for you to take repairs into your own hands!
Replacing the Ally's screen requires a little finesse or at least some patience, so proceed with caution (and watch our complete ROG Ally Breakdown on YouTube).
Here's a simplified tutorial:
- Power Down and Prep: Switch off your Ally and gather your tools (small screwdrivers, prying tools, and of course, the replacement screen).
- Remove the Back Cover: Unscrew the back panel with a Philip’s head screwdriver; there are 6 screws to remove. It is helpful to have an organizer handy to store the screws as you remove them. Once removed, you can go around the frame and gently unclip the cover with a flat plastic opening tool.
- Carefully Disconnect: Detach cables with patience. Remember, the ribbon cables are delicate.
- Begin with disconnecting the main Ally battery cable located in the middle of the battery. Unscrew the four screws that hold the battery in place, and disconnect the two ribbon cables on top. It is recommended on this step to follow our YouTube tutorial for precise maneuvers!)
- Continue in the same manner with the removing the 4 screws each of the joystick controller cards on each side, the SSD, cooling system, screen cable, Wifi antenna cables, speaker cables, and finally, the motherboard.
- Now you are able to take out the speakers and then remove the screen.
4. Screen Swap: Remove the old screen and gently install the new one, ensuring proper connection.
5. Reverse Reconstruction: Backtrack through the steps, meticulously reattaching everything.
Remember: Replacing a screen can be tricky. If you're unsure about your skills, consider seeking help from a professional. But with a little care and this guide, we strongly believe you can repair your own ROG Ally without spending extra money!

Keeping Your ROG Ally in Top Form
Prevention is key! Keep your Ally screen sparkling by investing in a tempered glass screen protector. It's a cheap shield against accidental nicks and scratches. It is also wise to pack your Ally in a sturdy case and keep it clean with a microfiber cloth. Check out our Ally Accessories page for all these extras and more!
Here are some more tips to extend the life of your Ally:
Don't Block the Fans: When gaming, avoid covering the air vents on the back of the Ally. This airflow is essential for keeping the components cool and preventing overheating, which can damage the hardware.
Harness the Power of Armoury Crate: Utilize the Armoury Crate software to manage power settings. "Silent" or "Performance" modes use less power than "Turbo" mode, which prioritizes performance over battery life.
Embrace Battery Care Mode: The MyASUS app lets you activate Battery Care Mode. This limits charging to 80%, reducing wear on the battery over time, although it does limit the maximum playtime per charge.
Unplug When Full: Avoid constantly keeping your Ally plugged in while at 100% charge. This can reduce battery health.
Keep it Updated: Ensure your Ally's operating system, drivers, and BIOS are up-to-date. Updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes that can contribute to the overall health of your device.
