How to upgrade your ROG Ally

Power Off:
- Completely turn off your ROG Ally by holding down the volume down button and the power button for a few seconds.
Prepare for Disassembly:
- Place the handheld screen down on a clean, flat surface.
- Remove six screws on the back, leaving the one at the bottom center for last.
Open Casing:
- Carefully pull the casing open using a plastic pick or a similar tool to disengage clasps.
Disconnect Battery:
- Safely unplug the battery located near the bottom of the casing.
Access Original SSD:
- Remove a flat black sticker on the top.
- Unscrew the M.2 screw holding the original SSD in place.
- Carefully pull out the original SSD.
Install New SSD:
- Install the WD_BLACK SN770M SSD by pushing it into the contact points.
- Screw the small M.2 screw back into place.
Reassemble:
- Put the flat black plastic back in place.
- Plug the battery back in.
- Put the casing back and squeeze the plastic around the edges to snap it together.
- Screw the six screws back in place.
Power On:
- Plug the official charging adapter into the ROG Ally.
- Turn the ROG Ally back on by holding down the power button.
- It should boot into the BIOS when detecting the new hardware.
Cloud Recovery:
- Press Y to go to Advanced Mode.
- Tap on the Advanced tab and select ASUS Cloud Recovery.
- View and agree to the Privacy Notice.
- Initiate Cloud Recovery downloading.
- Select your Internet AP and enter the Wi-Fi password.
- Wait for the download to complete and confirm.
Final Steps:
- Wait for the system to restart and connect to Cloud Recovery.
- Follow prompts, including potential data backup to an external hard drive.
- If not backing up, perform a factory reset of the handheld for a clean install of Windows 11/ROG programs.
