How to fix unresponsive ROG Ally Buttons
There's nothing more frustrating than a non-responsive button, especially mid-game. Not to fear, in most cases, a non-functioning button on your ROG Ally Console can be fixed with a few simple software tweaks. Before anything else, of course we recommend restarting your console. A simple restart can sometimes resolve software glitches that might be causing the button to malfunction. It is also recommended to try a full shutdown; when a console is powered down, it terminates all running processes and clears the system's RAM. To continue troubleshooting, work through the following options.
Update Armoury Crate
Armoury Crate is the software that controls the ROG Ally's functions and features. Make sure you have the latest version installed, as updates can include bug fixes. You can download the latest version from the Asus support website.
Enable Embedded Controller
The ROG Ally's buttons might be disabled in Armoury Crate. Open Armoury Crate and check if the "Embedded Controller" is enabled. To do this, open the Command Center. Next, press the Command Center button, which is the lower menu button located beside the top left corner of your screen. By default, the "Embedded Controller" option should be displayed as the middle icon at the bottom of the screen. If present, tap the "Embedded Controller" icon to ensure it's highlighted, indicating it's enabled.
What if I do not see the "Embedded Controller" option?
If the "Embedded Controller" option is missing, go to "Settings" on your ROG Ally. Find "Edit Command Center" (usually on the right side). In the Command Center interface, tap and hold an empty square or replace an existing icon you don't frequently use. Select "Embedded Controller" from the list and tap it to add it to the quick access menu. Once you've enabled the controller, test your buttons to see if they're functioning properly.
Button functionality
While less likely, it's also possible the button function itself has been changed in Armoury Crate. You can check the button assignments and re-assign the button to its default function if needed.
